Mid Term -Reflection

During my placement at the daycare, I had the opportunity to observe, engage with, and learn from both the children and staff. My first day was spent familiarizing myself with the center's policies and routines while observing the toddler room. The children were welcoming, happy, and eager to interact, and I quickly immersed myself in their play. However, I noticed areas for improvement in the environment, such as the need for more visual stimulation, structured routines, and personalization to create a sense of belonging. I look forward to contributing positively to the space.

As my placement continued, I implemented interactive activities that encouraged learning and social engagement. One of my most successful activities was making homemade ice cream with the children. It was a sensory-rich experience that fostered teamwork, fine motor skill development, and excitement. The collaborative nature of the activity reinforced the importance of designing hands-on learning experiences that encourage participation and connection. Similarly, a slime sensory bin activity captured the children's curiosity, allowing them to explore textures and engage in imaginative play. Seeing their enthusiasm and eagerness to revisit the activity throughout the day reinforced the value of sensory experiences in early childhood education.

During block week, I focused on strengthening relationships and refining my teaching strategies. I observed how activities like shape-matching games supported cognitive development while identifying concerns such as the need for improved meal portions to ensure children received adequate nutrition. Midweek reflections highlighted the importance of meaningful communication and shared experiences in fostering a supportive learning environment.

As I conclude my placement, I reflect on the meaningful experiences and lessons that have shaped my understanding of early childhood education. Through hands-on learning, observation, and self-reflection, I have gained deeper insights into fostering positive environments that support children's development, curiosity, and well-being. I am grateful for this opportunity and excited to continue growing in this field.

Final - Reflection

As my placement comes to an end, I am filled with gratitude for the experiences and learning opportunities I have had. Looking back, I can confidently say that this placement has been an incredibly positive and fulfilling journey. From the very beginning, I was welcomed warmly by the staff and children, which made me feel like a valued part of the learning environment.

Throughout my time at this center, I implemented a variety of engaging and meaningful activities that supported children's learning and development. Each activity, from Make My Emotion to Alphabet Soup and the St. Patrick's Day Art Activity, was met with enthusiasm and excitement from the children. Their eagerness to participate and their curiosity reinforced my passion for early childhood education. It was especially rewarding to see them actively engage in the experiences I planned, whether it was exploring emotions, recognizing letters, or expressing their creativity through art.

One of the most memorable moments was my final day, where I implemented Activity 12 – Do's and Don'ts Classroom Activity. Watching the children critically think about classroom expectations and make meaningful connections to real-life scenarios was a testament to the importance of hands-on, interactive learning. Their willingness to engage in discussions, collaborate with peers, and reflect on their behaviours showcased their growth and understanding of social-emotional learning.

The staff at this placement site played a crucial role in making my experience enjoyable and educational. Their support, guidance, and positive feedback encouraged me to grow as an educator. They made me feel appreciated, and their mentorship helped me refine my skills and confidence in working with young children. It was refreshing to be in a placement where I truly felt like I belonged, especially after my initial experience at another center, which was not as fulfilling.

Reflecting on this journey, I realize how much I have grown as an educator. This placement has reinforced my belief in the power of interactive and inclusive learning. It has strengthened my ability to create engaging activities that support children's development and allowed me to form meaningful connections with the children and staff.

I leave this placement with a deep sense of accomplishment and excitement for my future in early childhood education. The joy, curiosity, and enthusiasm of the children have reminded me why I chose this path. I am incredibly grateful for this experience and look forward to applying everything I have learned in my future teaching career.
